February 11th, 2013 High School ,

The Carmel girls triumphed this Saturday at the Indiana State High School Championships to take their 27 th straight win. Carmel finished with 397 points which doubled their second place competitors, Penn high school who finished with 189 points.

Domination does not even describe how good the Carmel girls were this weekend. The girls walked away with a win in seven out of eleven swimmingevents including the three relays. In the first of the three relays (the 200 medley relay) Carmel set a new state record of 1:41.17. That just missed, by .16, the National Public School Record in the event.Penn finished second, far back in 1:44.20.

Carmel Freshman Veronica Burchill had the most notable split, anchoring the team with a 22.49 freestyle leg. Burchill led off the 200 freestyle relay where her fellow Carmel Freshman Claire Adams had the fastest split with a 22.92. The freshman duo finished with a state record in the 400 freestyle relay later on in the meet, Adams again having the fastest split with a 49.96.

Orioles reliever Darren O’Day will have season-ending surgery to repair a strained left hamstring, manager Modal Scarf Bean by VIDA VIDA CCYMpC4Ll
said before Saturday’s mid-afternoon game against the Los Angeles Angels .

Showalter didn’t disclose when O’Day was having the surgery or who was performing the procedure, but said that the recovery time is six months.

O’Day is the second key Orioles reliever to be lost for the season because of injury. Left-hander Richard Bleier had surgery to repair a lat muscle tear on his left side earlier this month.

“I’m grateful for the position I’m in,” Machado said. “I’m 26 years old and I’m going into free agency.”

O’Day might have been able to return late this season if he decided against having surgery — a 10- to 12-week timetable was placed on that recovery — but Showalter said surgery will likely completely resolve the injury heading into next season.

“It gives you a lot better chance of it not being an issue again,” Showalter said of O’Day’s decision to have surgery. “That’s important.”

O’Day received a second opinion from a specialist in Nashville on Friday before deciding whether to have the procedure.

With O’Day’s season over, the Orioles not only lose his on-field contributions, but also the opportunity to dangle him as a trade chip. O’Day, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list earlier this week, is in the third year of a four-year, $31 million deal.

He injured his hamstring while coming off the mound to field a ball in the Orioles’ 3-2 loss to Seattle on Tuesday. Last week, O’Day didn’t pitch over a four-game stretch because of his hamstring, but avoided the DL and returned to make four more appearances before injuring it again.

The Maryland football team ran the ball better than a majority of Big Ten squads last season.

In 2017, the Terrapins return all of their key running backs and should be poised for another campaign of success.

Maryland finished fourth in the conference with 199.5 rushing yards per contest and averaged 4.9 yards-per-carry. The Terps also found the end zone on 26 different occasions last season.

Ty Johnson had one of the most impressive seasons inconference history. Despite only registering 110 carries, the sophomore tailback still rushed for 1,004 yards and averaged 9.1 yards-per-carry (best mark in program history).

Maryland also got strong production from freshman Lorenzo Harrison before he was suspended for an off-the-field incident. Harrison reeled off his fair share of big runs, especially early in the season.

Let’s take a closer look at each member of the Maryland backfield.

Ty Johnson

Johnson is one of the more electric players to come through College Park in quite some time. The former Fort Hill (Md.) standout didn’t have the smoothest start to the season as heaveraged just 43.0 rushing yards over thefirst three games last season. Johnson only registered double-digit carries in three games in 2016, but two of those contests came in the final two games of the season. In games against Rutgers and Boston College, Johnson rushed for 327 yards and two touchdownson 26 carries (12.6 yards-per-carry). He also caught 16 passes for 206 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown reception against Penn State.

Earlier this summer, Johnson was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, which is annually given to the top running back in college football. After a phenomenal season in 2016, Johnson appears to be gaining respect in the college football world and should carry the load once again for the Terps. Johnson provides big play potential for Maryland, but may be even more fresh with the amount of depth that the Terps have in the backfield.

Lorenzo Harrison

Despite only playing in nine games, Harrison still managed to tally 633 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 88 carries (7.2 yards-per-carry). The former DeMatha star topped the 70-yard mark in five of those contests, including 17 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown in a 28-17 win over Michigan State on Oct. 22. He also had a rush over 20 yards in all but three games this past season. Harrison possesses the perfect combination of speed and strength and proved that he can handle the load.

Kristin Mink was having lunch with her toddler in Washington, D.C., when she noticed who was sitting three tables over: EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

In a video posted to her Facebook account, Mink walks up to Pruitt and an unidentified companion and confronts him over his record of environmental deregulation and open corruption . According to Mink’s video, the confrontation occurred at Teaism in downtown Washington on Monday.

“Hi, I just wanted to urge you to resign because of what you’re doing to the environment and our country,” Mink says. “This is my son. He loves animals. He loves clean air. He loves clean water. Meanwhile, you’re slashing strong fuel standards for cars and trucks, for the benefit of big corporations.”

Pruitt’s smile turns to a frown as Mink speaks, and he glances nervously to the man sitting across from him.

“You’ve been paying about 50 bucks a night to stay in a D.C. condo that’s connected to an energy lobbying firm, while approving their dirty sands pipeline,” Mink continues, reading from notes. “We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment, somebody who believes in climate change and takes it seriously, for the benefit of all of us, including our children.”

Mink concluded: “So, I would urge you to resign before your scandals push you out.”

The video does not show Pruitt getting up and leaving the restaurant, but according to Mink, Pruitt and his two security guards left the restaurant before she returned to her seat.

Staff at Teaism could not immediately confirm whether Pruitt visited the restaurant on Monday, but said he had been seen there a few weeks ago.

This story is just the latest in an ongoing series of concerned citizens confronting Trump administration officials while dining out in public.

Mink responded to a text message from Splinter with this statement:

As soon as my husband pointed out Pruitt sitting there, I knew instantly that I had to say something to him, it was just a question of what. His actions are the source of so much of my despair for my child’s future and frankly the future of humanity. He’s literally sacrificing our air and water, the well-being of coastal communities, all kinds of unique natural resources, for short-term personal gains. Buying stupid crap like a soundproof phone booth for his office and first-class plane tickets with taxpayer dollars, living in housing discounted for him by an energy group while he does favors for their clients. I honestly don’t know how he sleeps at night.
